Difference between artificial leather and synthetic leather
Mar 07, 2023
Artificial leather: refers to a kind of material that forms a film of PVC and other resins or a structure similar to leather on the base cloth (also including the base cloth) made of woven cloth, non-woven cloth (non-woven cloth) and other materials by artificial synthesis, and looks like natural leather. Synthetic leather: refers to a kind of material that forms a polyurethane resin film or a structure similar to leather on the base cloth of woven, non-woven (non-woven), leather and other materials by artificial synthesis, and looks like natural leather.
In China, people are used to call the artificial leather produced with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin PVC artificial leather (referred to as artificial leather); The artificial leather produced with polyurethane (PU) resin and traditional fabrics is called PU artificial leather (referred to as PU leather); The synthetic leather produced with PU resin and nonwovens is called PU synthetic leather (synthetic leather for short). This is the classification of synthetic leather and artificial leather in some documents. The classification is mainly based on the coating material and the base material: synthetic leather with polyurethane resin as the coating material and nonwovens as the base cloth, and synthetic leather with PVC or polyurethane resin as the coating material and traditional fabrics as the base cloth.
Dissolution and infrared spectrum analysis
When a small piece of fabric is soaked in ethyl acetate for 20 minutes, three situations will occur: (1) PU synthetic leather swells; (2) PVC artificial leather dissolution; (3) The semi-PU synthetic leather swells in ethyl acetate, but the next layer dissolves. Use stainless steel tweezers to pull out the swelling skin and spread it on the filter paper, then use infrared lamp to dry (or air dry), and then use infrared spectrum to analyze the skin. Other parts can be prepared on the NaCl salt sheet with solution, and then the NaCl salt sheet and the prepared film can be used for infrared spectrum.
